Description: Business Analyst Payments Domain
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Business Analyst with deep expertise in the Payments domain, who will play a key role in driving the modernization of payment applications using next-generation technologies. This position involves working closely with stakeholders, technology teams, and clients to understand business requirements, define functional solutions, and ensure seamless delivery of products in an Agile development environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Innovation & Modernization: Support the migration of legacy payment platforms to modern, cloud-based, API-driven architectures using the latest tech stacks and tools.
Requirement Elicitation: Collaborate with business users, stakeholders, and product owners to gather, analyze, and document detailed business and functional requirements for payment systems.
Domain Expertise: Leverage strong knowledge of the payments ecosystem—including real-time payments, card processing, digital wallets, cross-border payments, and regulatory compliance—to provide strategic insights and guidance.
Functional Design: Translate business needs into clear functional specifications, process flows, and user stories that guide the development team in building scalable and modernized payment applications.
Consulting & Stakeholder Management: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and internal teams by offering subject matter expertise and recommending best practices for payment modernization initiatives.
Agile Product Delivery: Act as a key liaison between the development team and business stakeholders in an Agile environment, ensuring continuous delivery of high-quality products that meet business objectives.
Ownership & Leadership: Take full ownership of business analysis activities, lead requirements workshops, support UAT (User Acceptance Testing), and ensure alignment between business goals and technology solutions.
Candidate should demonstrate the following:
- Corporate Payments knowledge i.e. understanding of payment systems, the schemes they run, and practical back-office implementations (SWIFT, BACS, CHAPS, SEPA, Faster Payments)
- In-depth understanding of ISO20022 payment messages, schemas, and the usage of specific fields within those messages. Hands-on experience of mapping from MT to MX
- Create customer journeys and design payments operating model
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Extensive experience in the creation and elaboration of epics & user stories using industry best practices
- Experience working in a Kanban or Scrum software development environment, always focusing on the delivery of business value
- Ability to manage & prioritize backlogs of work for delivery squads
- Ability to identify and manage dependencies between work items to ensure blockers and conflicts are avoided
- Ability to communicate clearly with engineers, architects, and clients at various levels
- Run client or internal demos of functionality where necessary
- Agile, Jira, Confluence, XML, Miro boards
- Technical focus and API experience
Qualifications & Experience:
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred and will be considered a strong advantage, particularly with a focus in Finance, Technology, or Business Strategy.
Domain Experience:
The candidate should possess 7 to 14 years of hands-on experience in the Payments industry, working with various payment systems, platforms, and applications. This includes deep familiarity with areas such as digital payments, real-time payments, card networks, ACH, SWIFT, ISO 20022 messaging, and other financial transaction protocols.
Technical & Functional Expertise:
Demonstrated experience in understanding, analyzing, and modernizing legacy payment systems and transitioning to modern platforms using cutting-edge technologies (e.g., APIs, cloud-native architecture, microservices). Ability to work closely with engineering teams to define and validate functional and non-functional requirements.
Agile Methodologies:
Proven track record of working in Agile environments, particularly within frameworks such as Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Familiarity with Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Agile Toolset Proficiency:
Hands-on experience with industry-standard Agile project management tools such as JIRA for sprint and task tracking, and Confluence for documentation, collaboration, and knowledge management.
